Financial Aid FAQs

What do I need to bring to Financial Aid?

If you are independent, you need to bring a copy of your 2006 Federal Tax return. If you are dependent, you need to bring a copy of your 2006 Federal Tax return and a copy of your parents' 2006 federal tax return.

How do I know if I'm Dependent or Independent?

Please ask yourself the questions below:

  • Were you born before January 1, 1984?
  • Are you married?
  • Do you have children for which you provide more than half of the total support?
  • Do you have dependents who live with you and receive more than half their support from you, now and through June 30, 2008?
  • Are you an orphan or ward of the state?
  • Are you a veteran of the US Armed forces?

If you can not answer yes to any of the above questions, you are considered a dependent student, and will need to bring your parents 2006 federal tax return.

What if I can not find my tax return?

You need to call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and request a copy to be sent to you.
